The “Hike to Remember XII” is an event organized by the Peter P. Monaco Jr. Detachment 40 of the Marine Corps League, taking place on September 21, 2024, in Glastonbury, Connecticut. This annual hike is a significant event aimed at uniting veterans and active-duty service members to raise awareness about veteran suicide, which tragically claims the lives of 22 veterans every day.
Participants in the hike will cover a 22-kilometer route starting and ending at the Veterans Hall located at 980 Chestnut Hill Rd in South Glastonbury. The event emphasizes camaraderie and support, providing veterans with a network of peers to help them through challenging times. The goal for this year is to register 250 hikers and raise $30,000 to continue building support networks and resources for veterans in need.
The hike is primarily open to veterans and active-duty service members, but the broader community is encouraged to support the event, especially by welcoming the hikers at designated points during the hike.
For those interested in participating or supporting the event, registration is available on their official website, and donations are also welcome to help meet the fundraising goal. This event not only builds awareness but also fosters a sense of community and support among those who have served our country.
